Hasan Ali lagi… mana pergi Presiden PAS?
Nampaknya isu Hasan Ali masih tak habis lagi. Dalam Malaysiakini hari ini ada kecaman baru pula terhadap beliau.
Hasan Ali sekali lagi cuba menjadi hero. Kali ini beliau mahu menjadi hero untuk pegawai-pegawai kerajaan, agar para pegawai ini tidak dibuli oleh SELCAT. Sebelum ini beliau cuba menjadi hero orang Islam apabila mahu menyekat penjualan minuman keras.

I am officially unemployed
Today, at around 6pm, I officially became unemployed. (How do you register for Jobseekers’ Allowance?)
Today is my last day at Social Enterprise London (SEL), having been there since 19 June 2006. I don’t think you can find a better place to work in London than SEL. The company, the people, and the projects there make you want to wake up early in the morning and stay in the office till midnight. There are some exciting projects taking place there, and I have no doubt that SEL will put London firmly on the map as the global social enterprise capital.
After saying goodbye to everyone at SEL, I went to see a trustee of the Malaysian Europe Forum. Just arrived home 15 minutes ago. Must now rush to help fellow Malaysians in Luton prepare chicken satay for our Eid party tomorrow afternoon.
And then, from tomorrow evening onwards, I have to continue working on two MTT papers – one on agrotechnology and the other on counterfeit drugs – which have been put on hold for several weeks because I cannot find the time to complete them.

Tahun ini merupakan tahun ke tujuh belas saya meraikan 1 Syawal di perantauan. Memang suasana hari raya di tempat orang berbeza dari tempat sendiri. Tetapi ia tetap meriah.
Saya sekeluarga menyambut Aidilfitri kali ini di Luton, sebuah bandar kira-kira 50 kilometer ke utara London.
Kami memilih untuk tinggal di Luton kerana kos sara hidupnya lebih rendah berbanding London. Tambahan pula ada perkhidmatan keretapi dari Luton terus ke stesen London Bridge yang betul-betul bersebelahan dengan pejabat saya. Maka lokasi Luton memang amat sesuai untuk kami.
Bilangan penduduk di Luton ialah sekitar 185,000 orang. Sudah pasti majoriti penduduknya berkulit putih. Kaum minoriti hanyalah 35 peratus sahaja. Umat Islam di sini pula tidak sampai pun 15 peratus.

On the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December

Don’t be fooled by Western environmentalists (and their parrots)
Import duties, under the guise of ‘green’ taxes, will increase the
cost of international trade, ultimately damaging economic growth in
developing countries that exports to America like us. America is
Malaysia’s second biggest export partner.
Jairam Ramesh, India’s environment minister, said that he will not
sign any treaty in Copenhagen that forces a curb of carbon emission in
the Third World. We are lucky to have a figure in the developing world
like Ramesh. He knows how climate change activism in and by Western
countries can damage growth in developing countries. Malaysia needs to
learn from his boldness.
Let us not be fooled by the doom-glorifying environmentalists. Many of
them are simply following what Western green activists say, ignoring
science as well as the importance of growth and development in our own
country.

Jangan terperangkap agenda Barat
Mungkin setelah menyedari bahawa kempen alam sekitar di negara-negara Barat kerap kali dijadikan topeng kepada sekatan perdagangan yang menzalimi negara membangun, maka Jairam Ramesh, Menteri Alam Sekitar India, berkata bahawa beliau tidak akan menandatangani apa-apa perjanjian di sidang kemuncak Copenhagen sekiranya ia memaksa negara membangun menghadkan emisi karbon.
Mujurlah masih ada pemimpin negara dunia ketiga yang berani dalam menangani isu ini. Beliau menyedari hipokrasi negara-negara Barat yang telah sekian lama cuba menghalang kebangkitan dunia ketiga. Malaysia perlu mencontohi sikap India dalam hal ini.
Jangan kita terperangkap dengan kata-kata manis aktivis alam sekitar yang hanya mengikut telunjuk negara-negara Barat, dan mengenepikan kepentingan pembangunan negara kita sendiri serta fakta sains mengenai perubahan iklim dunia.

When you’re broke, continue spending.
It seems like there is a new philosophy to manage our finances – When faced with difficult times and you don’t have money, you must borrow and continue spending. Always stay in debt, and only balance your books if possible. If it is not possible to balance your books, then that is fine, really.
Hang on, wasn’t it excessive borrowing that caused the credit crunch?
Budget Deficit Due To Govt Spending To Revive Economy & Confidence
PUTRAJAYA, Sept 11 (Bernama) — The government’s budget deficit has been brought about by the lead role it takes from the private secctor in stimulating and reviving the people’s confidence in the economy during difficult times, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said.During recession the private sector dare not invest and hence the government needs to invest slightly more to boost the people’s confidence, particularly investor confidence, in the country’s economy.
” Our country’s philosophy on deficit budget is that during difficult times we have to spend slightly more to bring confidence in our economic system,” he told Bernama after breaking the fast with staff of the Public Private Partnership Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department on Thursday night.
The government has projected the budget deficit to hit 7.6 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year, the highest level since 1987 due to the fiscal stimulus packages totalling RM67 billion in November last year and March this year.
Nor Mohamed said: “ In difficult times we need to spend slightly more and this causes a deficit.”
“Our philosophy is okay. In good times, we reduce the deficit. If possible, we have a balanced budget,” he said when asked to comment on the World Competitiveness Report 2009/10 released on Tuesday by the World Economic Forum.
According to the report, Malaysia fell three notches to 23rd spot due to the deficit budget, among others.
For instance, during the 1997/98 Asian financial crisis, the government had to spend more, resulting in 5.5 per cent higher deficit in the 2000 budget but after the economy recovered, the government took measures to reduce the deficit year-by-year from 2000 till 2007 until it dwindled to 3.2 per cent.
” This showed we are careful and very prudent,” he said.
Nor Mohamed said during the recessionary period last year and this year, the government also had to spend slightly more and after the economy recovered, the deficit level would come down.
” We’ve our own ways of managing the economy. It’s not an issue. The people who wrote the World Competitiveness Report on Malaysia’s position should see our track record.
” Eventhough we spend slightly more during recession, we will reduce the deficit when the economy recovers.
” We will adopt the same approach this time and in the years ahead if our economy slips into recession,” he added.

Big move on 5 October 09
It is already 6 September. On the 6th of next month, I will be arriving in KL. This time it is not just one of those usual holidays. But it will be a big move back. Yes, after 17 years in the UK, this will be a very big move indeed.
The plan is quite straight forward. I am returning to run the Malaysia Think Tank and hopefully take it to the next level. We will be recruiting more staff very soon. And we have several projects lined up to spread freedom and liberty in Malaysia. It will be exciting.
My diary for October is already looking quite full. Attending the Economic Freedom Network conference in Siem Reap on 8 – 11 October. Speaking at the Pacific Rim Policy Exchange on 14 – 15 October. Organising a seminar at ISEAS on 16 October (details coming soon). Going to my brother-in-law’s wedding in Kuantan. Plus a few other meetings in Bangkok and Jakarta later in the month too.

Have you heard the 10 songs that were shortlisted for the 1Malaysia song contest? And, have you heard the winning entry – Malaysia Satu? If not, click here to listen to them.
Seriously, I have no idea how any of these songs got through to the final round. I have even less idea how Satu Malaysia won!! How can they be deemed as “Malaysian” when they are nothing but just typical pop / rock songs?
Oh, by the way, the singer(s) of “Keranamu Hatiku Malaysia” should find something else to do. They were definitely not born to sing.
