A letter to Ustaz Zaharuddin Abdul Rahman

Ustaz Zaharuddin Abdul Rahman made some interesting comments on his blog. Two posts in particular really attracted my attention. I was so intrigued that I called him twice to discuss his posts. And, since I have known him for years, I invited him to discuss some issues that he raised in writing. So, below is my first letter to him which I emailed earlier today.

You visiting York?

I am in York until tomorrow. I am speaking at Footsey 2008 tomorrow afternoon. This year’s Footsey is held at the York Racecourse.

But what I really want to write about is the hotel I am staying tonight. Middlethorpe Hall is absolutely fabulous! I am very impressed. The area is serene. The main building is majestic. The garden, acres of it, is very very nice. And the spa….. you just have to experience it to know what I am talking about.

Middlethorpe Hall reminds me of Henley Park Hotel in Washington DC where I stayed in April. Both are historic buildings rich in history. I could spend hours reading about the stories of these historic houses. But, now, I need to get ready for dinner.

Do we have a similar “Historic Hotels” scheme in Malaysia?

The host was Sami Zeidan in Doha, and the other panellists were Tricia Yeoh of the Centre for Public Policy Studies and Dr Azmi Sharom of Universiti Malaya.

They tore the Malaysian flags!

After hearing the PM saying that those who flew our Jalur Gemilang upside down is kurang ajar, I wrote about the “not quite upside-down” flags in Putrajaya.

Imagine my shock and horror upon seeing people proudly waving our Malaysian flag, our Jalur Gemilang, after tearing it up.

I mean…. flying it upside down is one thing. But tearing it to small bits and proudly showing off the bits??? How can this be allowed???

Malaysian flags torn to bits!

Malaysian flags torn to bits!
