My post on Perak state government generated many comments (and about 14,000 hits!!!). Thank you very much to all those who contributed. I have come to this conclusion:
The ethnicity / party of the MB candidate should not matter as long as the person receives backing from all 3 coalition party.
But, if the ethnic criteria really is in the state constitution, then the first move of the new state government should be to amend it. If they can get 2/3 majority by persuading some BN MPs, Perak can become a beacon of hope, showing how serious the Barisan Rakyat is in removing ethnic politics.
Of course, due to the concerns that will exist at the grassroot level, they need to do some serious campaigning and explaining before such amendment is made.
Having said that, I still feel DAP should have first refusal for the post of MB.
i have always thought that Raja Nazrin is a wise and respected ruler. i am sure he will make a decision with his people in mind.
hope to hear who the new MB is soon.
Wan Saiful,
I agree with you on certain sense. If appointment of DAP as Perak MB is not happening this round, it does not mean it will not happen on the next round provided with BN’s MP acknowledgement that they will support for 2/3 majority in amending the constitution. New change cannot happen in a day or two and as it needs time to harvest the wisdom out of rakyat. If abolishment of this constitution meant to be a collective agreement from all the DUNs, then this can been regard as first accomplishment in Opposition coalition. DAP needs to play an active to tell to its supporters not to disregard them in next election as 100% victory in this 12th general election does bring special meaning in the book of DAP even if they did not take in as MB Perak. At least the conscience is clear for all that anyone including Indian can be a MB Perak provided that they hold majority state seats on 13th general election. No one knows that perhaps an Indian representative surface out from either PKR or DAP in the next coming general election.
What is the use of having a state topgun from the same colour skins if he was not able to revive Perak in competiting for job opportunity, growth in economy, security and community responsibilities for all races.
Who ever becoming the CM in most of the blogger’s eyes are not important…there is no need to determine from ethnic backgrounds..
What more important is the old marginalized constitution since 50 years ago that are irrelevent needed to be reviewed from time to time to cultivate equality and fairness among different communities in the country. The old constitution formula might not be relevant in today’s political wave.
And this will definitely mark a new chapter in political system in Perak like wat Anwar mention earlier…a new Dawn to Malaysia…
This is also a challenge for Opposition coalition to test their political trust in realizing the BA spirit….”dun look at the small victory but look at the overall vistory”. PAS will be put at task on whether they are readily to accept for secular Islamic state. PKR will also be tested to be readily serve for justice for all. While DAP will also be tested to show the readiness on taking care of interest for rakyat. These opposition coalition have been long be regarding as NATO (No action talk only )….Perak is definitely the first platform for these coalition to exercise the “walk the talk”…..
Fellow perakian, i truly understand that most of us are fear with the changes. “Changes” has already been decided by us. There is no way of looking back to what we have started. Why not just put this coming 4-5 years as a testing ground for a better or worst to all besides BN? Remember the choice is in our hands….perhaps BN learns from their mistakes…
I should agree with that
BN jelas tidak komited kerana membiarkan seruan2 perkauman lantang berbunyi kini..hurm..
Finally… http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/79710
We should judge by our perfomance not by ethnic specialty.. They can make a rule such as Sabah which change the MB every 2 years(I think)..
So, be together BR and show them(BN) what is the true meaning of LEADERSHIP!!!
Dear all,
I am very very very (to the power of infinity) disappointed of what’s happening to the so-called opposition coalition.
They say they are united to bring down BN. They won big. The rakyats are to thank for that. Right now it’s the rakyat that they are making a mockery off. ‘Ni pakat dok berebut situ berebut sini..’ this thing is not showing to us AN IOTA of proof that the opposition coalition is a united front.
The last-minute cancellation of the swearing in of Perak MB is the last straw. The opposition coalition to me right now is NO BETTER, even worse, than the BN they’re fighting against!
I am utterly disappointed. But I’ll keep praying that Malaysia is rid off power-starving politicians who can’t see beyond the boundaries of their own individual needs!
The sincerety is something very abstract. We cannot judge people by the book.
Politician not always sometime and Opputunise. Thier (party) and personel agenda is sometime not parallel to the people in main stream expected.
We expected in future PKR should field high educated person, not just BIDAN TERJUN. This will reflect the quality of administration lead by his/her team in the goverment.
Some area like in Gua Musang, As far as I am concerned the people only a last minute person, and known as “bad guy” . Failed to pay people house rent. He just become a YB by coincident due to Tsunamy . Like we say to BN ” Bubuh Lembu/kayu pun orang Pang Kah”. So dot this one happen agian in future.
