Personal thoughts of Wan Saiful Wan Jan

Putrajaya

Putrajaya somehow became a regular visit for me while I was in Malaysia in December 07. I must have made at least two visits every week.

I think Putrajaya is impressive. In particular, the PMO and Putrajaya Mosque area is well-planned.

Coming from PICC towards the Putrajaya Mosque, you can see the PMO in front of you and the view, to me, is majestic. Perhaps that was done intentionally to show that it is the PM of Malaysia who has the real power, not the Agong, whose palace was not even in the view.

Shopping wise, I quite like Alamanda. It is not too crowded and the variety of shops is good. If you are looking for a good tailor, I would recommend Fox Custom Tailor on the ground floor of Alamanda. The service was simply excellent. I ordered a two-piece suit and an extra pair of trousers. At RM1480 and RM350 respectively, they are not cheap. But when you convert that to GBP, they become “normal”. I have nothing but praise for the quality of material and customer service.

Nasi Kandar restaurant near Putrajaya Mosque, probably the most expensive mediocre foodstall in the world – the udang galah costs RM20 each but is nothing special.

BUT, like any other places, Putrajaya is not without faults. The parking area next to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara was abysmal and embarassing. There was a big crater with a serious piece of rock in the middle of the parking area which could cause serious damage to any car.

And, it was also in Putrajaya that I realise how serious our literacy problem is.
