Personal thoughts of Wan Saiful Wan Jan

Congratulations!

                                                 Muhammad Yunus

A belated congratulations to Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank for winning the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

The award vindicates the belief that trade, commerce and prosperity – not poverty and meaningless fighting – hold huge potentials for lasting peace.

but why would you trust the Nobel Peace Prize? Didn’t they also give one to Kissinger? In no way does winning that bogus prize “vindicate” something.

Check out Prof Taj Hashmi’s criticism of Muhamad Yunus – http://www.merinews.com/catFull.jsp?articleID=123585&catID=1&category=World&rtFlg=rtFlg

The criticism is not at Muhammad Yunus, as I understand it. It is aimed at micro-credit.

I agree that micro-credit is not the panacea. Poverty can never be totally eradicated.

The micro-loans allow people to trade, and it is trade and commerce, and the prospect of prosperity, that pave the way towards peace.

Bangku: The award does vindicate something. It vindicates “the belief that trade, commerce and prosperity – not poverty and meaningless fighting – hold huge potentials for lasting peace” is necessary to win the Nobel Prize. :P
